Reflective Essay 2
This semester, I have practiced cause-effect essay, argumentative essay, and problem-solution essay. Different from last semester, these three genres of essays particularly focus on certain issues of various fields. Therefore, I can broaden my horizon and get to know lots of background knowledge about these issues. However, it is more challenging for me that I have to spend more time on researching those issues I am not familiar with and to construct them into a complete composition. Although the writing project in this semester is quite difficult, I have learned much from it and had a lot of fun.
First writing project in this semester is cause-effect essay, and I chose “The Reasons Coronavirus Disease Spreads” as my topic. The topic of coronavirus is popular lately. Thus, it is easy to find relating reports and information. However, it’s a challenge for me to collect the information which is necessary and exclude unnecessary information. Additionally, I remember that I was the only one who worked on this topic in the class. Therefore, I didn’t have any references to look up. Although there were some difficulties during the writing, the process of writing this essay wasn’t that difficult. Actually, it was the smoothest one among the other two essays I wrote this semester.
The second writing project is argumentative essay. In this essay, I worked on a controversial issue, “Should lawyers work hard to defend a client they think is guilty.” I have huge interest on this topic. Soon after starting to write the draft, I collected numerous information to support my positive argument. Through writing this essay, I imperatively wanted to persuade my reader like a serious debate. Unconsciously, the essay ended up becoming a long essay with over thousand words. During the writing process, I also confronted some difficulties as last essay. I had difficulties describing a complex case clearly. Also, as the essay grew longer, I worried about missing my points. Thus, while writing the essay, I had to check the structure of the essay from time to time to avoid losing the structure of arguments. Overall, I enjoy writing this essay a lot.
The third writing project is the toughest one which is problem-solution essay. I chose high house price issue in Taiwan as my topic. As soon as I started to write the essay, I regretted choosing this topic so bad. House price issue involves various professions which are totally unrelated with my own. I had to spend more time on understanding journals, articles, and lots of proper nouns. I struggled understanding those difficult words and transforming them into my own thoughts. Also, facing with such difficult topic, I had to design a suitable survey making participants know the questions easily. For the first time, I couldn’t submit my essay in time which indeed frustrated me so much. However, I’m still glad that I seized this opportunity to step out my comfort zone and push my limit. Because of this project, I learned so much that I wouldn’t have known before.
Finally, I want to thank to professor Sherry. Because my essays are always long and intricate. It must be very tired of you to correct my essay. I feel so sorry about that.😭 Thank you for letting me have this opportunity to challenge myself. Also, I want to thank myself for not giving up during the difficult time. I want to say to myself “you made it!”
